RIDE HIGHLIGHTS:

What to expect

Being in the North York Moors, Dalby and the surrounding forests are not flat by any means, so if you like cycling up and down hills, this one is for you. The surface goes from smooth wide gravel tracks to singletrack and everything in between. With 3 route distances, the event is suited to all abilities and there are not many technical sections on the routes to worry about. Dalby is a hidden gen for gravel cycling in the UK and it should be high up on your list to come and visit. .

Ride difficulty

All routes involve climbs up steep terrain off road. However the distances and overall elevation gain will ensure this event will be suitable for the majority of cyclists.

Long Route ***

Medium Route **

Short Route **

*****  Reserved just for our hardest routes. Expect long distance & lots of challenging climbs both on and off road.

****  Typically longer rides with regular climbs which could be both steep & long. Suitable for regular riders with some training.

***  A mix of terrain & elevation. A decent day out with some tricky sections but still suitable for regular riders.

**  Some harder sections but suitable for all regular cyclists

Easy, suitable for all riders. Mostly flat route.

Technical difficulty

Conditions in Dalby hold up quite well in all weather conditions, however if it has been raining a lot you will get muddy and some sections will be slippy. The long and medium route involves long ascents and descents on steep ground so make sure you have sufficient gearing.

Long Route ***

Medium Route **

Short Route **

*****  A challenging route suitable only for experienced riders. Expect short hike-a-bike sections, a mix of terrain & loose climbs and descents.

****  Suitable for regular off roaders, the route may contain rockier sections, technical descents etc.

***  A mix of off road conditions with some more difficult sections.

**  More typical UK gravel which may be muddy when wet but no challenging sections

Smooth terrain suitable for all riders.

TYRE & BIKE RECOMMENDATIONS

This route is designed for gravel bikes but you will be fine on a hardtail MTB. We do send out tyre recommendations closer to the time. If dry, a standard all-rounder gravel tyre (35-45mm) will be ideal. Make sure you have sufficient gearing as there are some long steep ascents. In the wet, you will want wider and knobbly tyres to get some grip in the muddy stuff.
