KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Accommodation
We’ll stay at Rocacorba Cycling, a boutique hotel, comprising a number of exquisite Catalan villas, from the 17th century. Tucked between olive groves and quiet hills, Rocacorba is a stunningly calm setting with comfortable rooms, a pool, sauna and plenty of space to unwind. With great food, friendly staff and everything set up for cyclists, it’s the kind of place where you instantly feel looked after.
You can choose between a private single room (limited availablity), shared twin (2 beds) or shared double (1 bed) room.
Bike & Tyre Choice
We recommend running tubeless tyres of 38-45mm with a gravel tread pattern for the faster rolling terrain in the area. Should rain be forecast for the trip, you may wish to consider a grippier tread. There will be some climbs on our routes, which are longer than UK gravel climbs, so a gear ratio of at least 1:1 is advised.
Food
Catalan tapas (or “pinxos”) celebrate the region’s rich flavours - smoky cured meats, fresh seafood, artisan cheeses, and vibrant vegetables. Each bite tells a story of tradition and Mediterranean flair, inviting people to connect, share, and savour the experience together All best enjoyed with a glass of local Empordà after a day on the bike.
Weather
April is a great month to visit Girona, with comfortable midday temperatures ranging from 16 to 20°C and very little rainfall. The weather is warm enough to ride in short sleeves, and the perfect opportunity to earn your first tan lines of the year
TERRAIN
Our routes will be around 60-70% gravel and 30-40% tarmac, including quiet lanes. The roads in this area are generally much quieter than those in the UK. The beauty of this area is that you get a variety of different gravel to ride so you can learn, develop and test your skills each day. From champagne gravel to short technical sections (think chunky gravel, rocks, roots, gullies, sand, and possibly mud depending on the weather), we’ll tackle it all.
Routes
We’ll have two different route distances on each of the two main ride days (medium is 60-80km and long is 90-110km), plus short routes on arrival and departure day (20-40km options).
Climbing
The area is hilly. Whilst we will be avoiding some of the bigger climbs in the area, the main routes include some climbs and rolling terrain. Expect elevation gain of 600m-1350m on the medium routes and 1200m+ on the longer routes.
STAGE DETAILS
On our training camps we offer two distances to choose from every day, a long and a medium route.
